The tour de France: the day after the last day

A perfect moment to evaluate the Tour de France 2005.
Best sprinter (green jersey). I don’t think it is great that a sprinter who did not win one sprint can be the best sprinter. So Hushovd did not deserve that title. McEwen has won three sprints, so I would call him best sprinter. It is a pity Boonen could not get his ass downhill, so now we still don’t know who is the best. On the other hand, I don’t like Boonen, so for that I don’t give a shit he had to give up that soon
Best mountaincyclist. Really cool that Rasmussen has one this one. Was he the best guy in the mountains? No, I think Basso was the best one. Rasmussen was the best one in the first few climbs, but there is no way he can follow Basso, Armstrong and even Ullrich all the way to the top.
Best Young rider (white jersey). Popovitsj was overall the best one. He also had to be as one of Amstrong best men. But I am curious who would have won as Valverde wouldn’t have hurt his knee. Cool to know that Weening is the number eleven, and Posthuma number fourteen
Best Overall (yellow jersey). There is no doubt that Lance Armstrong is the best. I think this year he did not really use his team to win the Tour. He was the best in the mountains and the time trial. Besides that, he dictated the peloton.
Best team: CSC. It felt like they were every day cycling with the best. I saw them every day. And they had a killing team time trial. If Zabriskie would not have crashed, they would have beat Discovery channel.
Scariest moment: The timetrial of Rasmussen. I was praying he would make it all the way, and I only saw his time trial from the point that he fall for the second time.
Most impressive moment: Armstrong passing Ullrich during the short time trial.
Biggest Ass of the tour: Kloden, without a doubt. Just passing Weening a few meters before the top of the hill/mountain. Asshole. If he would just have waited for five meters….
Cyclist who had most problems with its team: Difficult; Vino or Moureau. I am no fan at all of Moureau, but it was painful to see that his team wasn’t helping him at all. Some for Vino. T-mobile chasing him while he was escaping. And not only once…but at least twice.
Most stupid Action: Pereiro missing a turn in the mountains. He must have been really happy that it did not happen in the Pyrenean.
Worst crash: Zabriskie falling in the team time trial. Wearing the yellow jersey and knowing he would have still be wearing it if he would not have fall down.
Most hart breaking moment: Valverde giving up. All those tears, and because of such a stupid little thing. Although Amrstrong passing Ullrich and in the last time trial Rasmussen were heartbreaking as well.
Most Ego smashing moment: Armstrong who is passing Rasmussen. The guy started six minutes before Armstrong. That must have hurt the ego.
The ultimate Grey mouse of the tour: Never seen the guy, but the number six at the overall all list: Levi Leipheimer.
Next years top 10(in voluntary order) Basso, Valverde, Mancebo, Vinokourov, Ullrich (if he tries it another time) Evans, Popovitsj, Weening (just hoping never hurts), Sevilla and Landis (although I really hope that he will not be there)

A last quote: Vive le tour, for ever (Lance Armstrong)
