Bygdøy en Frogner – Parken (Oslo Norge)
Friday 29th of July
As we are on vacation no alarm clock this morning. After waking up it is time for a shower. I am pretty happy when I find out that the shower is nice. I always hate it when you have to “catch” the water that is coming out, but this one feels like a rain shower. Around ten thirty we take breakfast at Samson (on Karl Johans gata) I take a wonderful chicken ciabatta and a strawberry smoothie. At the tourist information we ask again some questions about the public transport. The answers satisfy us and we buy a daypass at seven eleven. At Radhus brygge we take the ferry to Bygdøy. As the first stop (Dronningen) is coming closer, we decide to stay where we are and have a look where the ferry is going next. A good decision, because a lot of people get of the ferry. The second stop we get off and walk besides the bay back to the first stop. (than we can take the best places before all the others get back at the second stop) Bygdøy is the place where all the rich people of Oslo live. What a lot of nice houses (and boat houses) You can just imagine living there…….Before we get on the ferry we lay down in the sun. It is good to hear that the weather in the Netherlands suck and that we can lay down in the sun. Who said that up north the weather is even worse?
As we are back in downtown Oslo, we take the tram to Frogner – parken to see the sculptures of Vigeland. It is amazing how many statues Oslo has. I am curious how Oslo looks like in winter. Before we go tosee all the statues we eat some yoghurt. While we sit and eat we see people getting in the park, taking off their clothes and start sunbathing in their bikini. We would love to do that as well. Maybe we can do that tomorrow. After taking some pictures of some of the statues we decide it is time for a glass of coke (or as they say: Pepsi(well that will do as well) On the map we can see that there must be somewhere a icespeedskating museum. It is a bit of a pity we are on the wrong side of the park. We are a bit tired (our pour legs are not used to little hills, the Dutch cities are flat) and we have to make ourselves go there. When we walk out of the park, pass the tennis court we see something that has the figures of a speed skating oval…now it is something else, but it is possible that they skate here in the winter….And we find a statue of a figure skater….it must have been a skating oval…. So we take a picture. We forget the museum and walk to the tram to go back downtown.
In the evening we eat at 3 brøre at the Karl Johans gata. The food is ok, although they seem a bit surprised that we want to order food. Everybody around us is still drinking beer (they always drink beer, it is surprising) and smoking cigarettes. But the view is nice and we spent our time on the terrace well… After dinner we get back to “our” evening spot at the Radhus plasse to sit in the sun. we move our couch in the direction of the sun and count our blessings…. And get the shock of our lives when we do some math and “see” how much this city trip will cost us if we take all meals outside….. We have to change something about that, starting tomorrow morning. When we walk back to the hostel it surprises us how many people are outside. It looks like every citizen of Oslo goes out every evening….. When it is getting darker (it is funny that evening is falling in later over here) we hear some fireworks and we wonder shortly why that would be.
